With the rapid developments of technologies and trends, it is more critical than ever to grow your networking skills to be equipped to manage the changing demands placed on infrastructures.  Understanding how your network operates and how to design a scalable, resilient infrastructure to support any architecture are important components of this necessary foundation.

The 3rd Annual Cisco Networking Fundamentals Series is a great way to kick-start or refresh your knowledge of Cisco Network, while connecting with your peers from across the country over the course of four weeks. Using Cisco Telepresence Solutions, the series leverages Cisco and Presidio experts across participating Presidio South* region to present and moderate the sessions. The first session is quickly approaching on May 4 – there’s still time to register!

Last year’s sessions had almost 1,400 attendees, eager to grow their knowledge and technical acumen, learning from the expertise of local Presidio and Cisco engineering teams. This year, we will focus on expanding the technology and skills needed to become a better engineer and build confidence in troubleshooting and designing solutions.  From initial device setup, spanning tree and routing to network design and best practice discussions with your peers, there is value to be gained!

As in previous years, I will be kicking off the first session, discussing network fundamentals that will become a foundation on which you can build your technical skills. I will also make a point to allocate time during the first session to discuss certifications to give you a clearer picture of what’s needed to pursue them. I have found through my own experiences that sessions like these, although not focused on studying for a certification, provide valuable baseline knowledge that can make obtaining certifications much easier. Performance metrics like “speed in completing network related IT projects” and “speed in resolving technical problems” are can be improved after increasing your network acumen.

By the end of the sessions, you should feel more fluent with your networking infrastructure operational knowledge, in addition to gaining new community connections.  Who knows, maybe you can help start a local users-group to continue the development of these skills!

If you have been avoiding brushing up on your network skills, or are just starting out, make sure to register to attend. The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago; the second best time is now!
