Cisco Live 2026: The Agentic Era Has Arrived

Every few years, a technology conference delivers announcements that feel genuinely consequential — not just incremental product updates, but a cohesive view of where the industry is heading. Cisco Live 2026 in Las Vegas was one of those moments.

Across recent Cisco announcements and this week’s Cisco Live keynotes and sessions, a broader strategy came into focus: a unified AI operations platform, an agentic security stack, AI-ready networking silicon, edge and infrastructure platforms, and targeted acquisitions that together point toward a new operating model Cisco calls AgenticOps.

The central thesis is straightforward: AI agents are becoming a new class of enterprise coworker. They operate at machine speed, access sensitive systems, make decisions, and take action on behalf of humans. The infrastructure layer that connects, governs, and secures those agents will define enterprise competitive advantage for the next decade. Cisco is clearly positioning itself as a major platform provider for that layer.


A New Threat Landscape — Why This Is Urgent

Cisco’s sense of urgency at this event is grounded in firsthand experience with frontier AI capabilities. Earlier this year, Anthropic withheld its new Mythos model from public release due to concerns about its offensive cyber capability. Cisco was one of a small number of organizations given access to work with Mythos defensively — to find and patch security vulnerabilities before bad actors could exploit them.

The experience changed Cisco’s threat modeling fundamentally. Cisco has warned that AI-driven attacks may compress the window between vulnerability discovery and exploitation from weeks to minutes — or even seconds (see Cisco Shields Up guidance and the Cisco Cloud Control announcement). The same AI tools that accelerate discovery for defenders are accelerating exploitation for attackers. The traditional enterprise patch cycle — measured in weeks or months — is no longer adequate.

This context frames Cisco’s security announcements and the broader strategy it brought forward at Cisco Live.


Cisco Cloud Control — One Platform to Run It All

The anchor announcement of Cisco Live 2026 is Cisco Cloud Control, available in Controlled Availability in the United States as of June 2, with global availability planned for July 2026. It is the foundation for the AgenticOps model — a unified environment where human operators and AI agents manage, monitor, and defend critical IT infrastructure together.

One login. One view. Spanning Cisco’s networking, security, compute, observability, and collaboration platforms simultaneously.

The heart of the platform is the AI Canvas — a multiplayer workspace where operators and AI agents work from the same live telemetry to investigate and resolve issues in real time. Context persists across shifts and team handoffs, so nothing is lost and nothing needs to be repeated when a problem escalates.

The keynote demo illustrated the value clearly: a fraud detection application exhibiting latency. An operator opened the AI Canvas, described the problem in natural language, and the AI — aware of the operator’s role and permissions — guided a structured investigation across compute, Kubernetes, and network layers. When the investigation crossed into network territory the operator could not access, they invited the network administrator to join the same session. The AI automatically briefed the new team member. The Nexus Dashboard surfaced a leaf switch with a QoS misconfiguration. The AI recommended a policy fix. The network admin approved it. The AI applied it.

From symptom to resolution, across two teams with different access levels, in a single collaborative session. That is AgenticOps in practice.

Cloud Control Studio extends this further — Agent Builder lets organizations build their own AI agents connected to 50+ third-party platforms, and App Builder generates complete workflows from natural language prompts. Everything built in Studio can be published to the Cisco Cloud Control Marketplace.


Securing the Agentic Workforce

AI agents create a security challenge that traditional frameworks were not built for. They operate as non-human identities with privileged access, executing tasks at machine speed across systems and data stores. Cisco’s AI Readiness Index underscores the gap: only 24% of organizations say they can control agent actions with proper guardrails and live monitoring. That readiness gap is exactly why Cisco is treating agentic security as an infrastructure-level problem, not just an application-layer concern.

Cisco’s response is layered and spans the full infrastructure stack.

Live Protect — Shielding the Network Fabric

Live Protect provides real-time vulnerability shielding for Cisco Nexus switches using eBPF technology — the same technology underlying Cisco’s Isovalent acquisition. When a new CVE is identified, Live Protect can deploy a compensating control immediately, without reboots or maintenance windows, buying time for a structured patch cycle. It is now included with the Nexus One product entitlement and expanding to Catalyst switches and SD-WAN appliances this summer.

Hybrid Mesh Firewall — Enforcement Across the Stack

The new Cisco Hybrid Mesh Firewall creates a unified security enforcement fabric spanning Cisco firewalls, third-party firewalls, NVIDIA BlueField DPUs on AI servers, Nexus Smart Switches, and software workload agents. Stateful segmentation is built directly into Nexus 9300 Smart Switches — firewall-grade enforcement at wire speed without a separate appliance in the data path. The new Cisco Secure Firewall 6100 brings up to 570 Gbps of NGFW and IPS throughput in a 2RU form factor, with machine learning-based zero-day detection through SnortML.

DefenseClaw & Astrix — Governing the Agents Themselves

DefenseClaw is Cisco’s open source governance layer for OpenClaw and other agentic AI runtimes, with connectors and roadmap support for tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, and others. It integrates with Cisco Secure Connect and Zero Trust Access — treating AI agents as identities subject to the same zero trust principles applied to human employees.

Cisco’s pending acquisition of Astrix Security adds the discovery layer: the ability to find, inventory, and govern every non-human identity in the enterprise — every AI agent, service account, API key, and OAuth token — and apply real-time threat detection to their behavior. You cannot govern what you cannot see.

Quantum Readiness

Looking further ahead, Cisco committed to quantum-safe communications across the majority of its core portfolio by December 2026, with new Quantum Ready Assessments identifying enterprise assets most exposed to harvest-now-decrypt-later attacks available globally in July 2026.


AI Infrastructure — From Silicon to Application

Underpinning Cisco’s software and security story is a major AI networking fabric strategy, including the Silicon One G300 announced earlier this year. The G300 delivers 102.4 Tbps of switching capacity for AI cluster fabrics, with Intelligent Collective Networking technology that delivers a 28% improvement in GPU job completion time and a 33% increase in network utilization compared to standard traffic management. New systems powered by G300 support 100% liquid cooling and offer nearly 70% better energy efficiency than prior generation hardware. General availability is targeted for the second half of 2026.

On the compute side, Cisco continues to expand Secure AI Factory with NVIDIA across current Blackwell-generation platforms and is expected to align with NVIDIA’s forward roadmap as next-generation architectures become available. The Secure AI Factory approach combines HGX GPU servers, Nexus networking, unified security, and orchestration into a validated full-stack AI infrastructure offering.

Deployment of these platforms is addressed by Cisco: Stack Automation by Quali — a co-developed, Cisco-exclusive automation platform that takes deployment from rack to application in hours rather than weeks. Built on Cisco Validated Design blueprints with agentic intelligence baked in, it supports click-to-deploy from the Cisco Cloud Control Marketplace. An Essentials tier is available at no cost.


A Deliberate Platform Strategy

A related story behind Cisco Live 2026 is what Cisco has been assembling through acquisitions and integrations over the past 18 months. Isovalent (eBPF networking and security), Robust Intelligence (AI model security), NeuralFabric (private small language models), Galileo Technologies (AI observability and trust), and Astrix Security (non-human identity, pending close) form a deliberate, coherent stack.

The pattern is clear: Build private AI models on your own data (NeuralFabric). Secure and validate them (Robust Intelligence). Observe their quality and behavior in production (Galileo). Discover and govern every agent and non-human identity that uses them (Astrix). Enforce security at the network fabric layer (Isovalent). This is not a product list. It is an architecture — and Cisco Live 2026 is where the strategy became much more visible.
