Greenbelt, MD - November 20, 2013 – Presidio today announced that they have been recognized by Cisco Systems as the Internet of Things (IoT) Partner of the Year. Presidio was presented the award by Cisco’s Chief Futurist, Dave Evans, at the Presidio Exchange Event in Orlando Florida, November 14-15, 2013 at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort. During the award presentation Evans stated, “Presidio is one of the first partners to recognize and embrace all of Cisco's IoT technologies and solutions.”
The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects accessed through the Internet, as defined by technology analysts and visionaries. These objects contain embedded technology to interact with internal states or the external environment. When objects can sense and communicate, it changes how and where decisions are made, and who makes them. The IoT is connecting new places–such as manufacturing floors, energy grids, healthcare facilities, and transportation systems–to the Internet. When an object can represent itself digitally, it can be controlled from anywhere. This connectivity means more data, gathered from more places, with more ways to increase efficiency and improve safety and security.
Presidio’s Systems Engineering business unit focuses on developing custom solutions that either make existing Cisco equipment more practical in specific environments or create more connectivity and intelligence to objects. Sean Rahn, Vice President of Presidio Systems Engineering stated, “Presidio provides a broad range of engineering services including hardware and software development that enhance Presidio's IT solutions by addressing unique needs our clients have that aren’t addressed by many off-the-shelf IT products. We do everything from hardened IP phones to writing custom software for call centers.” For more information please visit Presidio Systems Engineering.
Presidio was one of Cisco's top revenue IoT partners worldwide, achieving a 40% year-over-year growth in FY13 for Connected Safety and Security. “We are honored to receive this award. At Presidio, we recognize that there will be a transformation from the Internet of things to the Internet of everything and believe that represents tremendous opportunity for our clients,” stated Bob Cagnazzi, Chief Executive Officer at Presidio.
This is the first year that Cisco has given out the IoT award. Cisco estimates that 50 billion devices and objects will be connected to the Internet by 2020. Yet today, more than 99 percent of things in the physical world remain unconnected. The growth and convergence of processes, data, and things on the Internet will make networked connections more relevant and valuable than ever before, creating unprecedented opportunities for industries, businesses, and people. This transformation is what Cisco has branded the transformation of the Internet of things to the Internet of Everything.
