I recently had a chance to get my hands on Cisco’s new MDS 9710 fabric director at EMC World 2013 and I can describe it in two words, common sense. Common sense is defined by Merriam-Webster as “sound and prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the situation or facts”. As part of the Cisco’s Storage Networking line and neatly following in the MDS 9513’s path, the MDS 9710 provides reliability, performance and scale, and represents the new standard in data center storage networking.

We are all anticipating the impact of big data on the datacenter of the future. Recently at EMC world 2013, I had an opportunity to take a peek at Cisco’s new innovations, the MDS 9710. Cisco has always been an innovator in the storage area network market, and it appears this trend is not going to change. The MDS 9710 provides 4x the performance of any storage director in the market with 16Gb fibre channel ports and supports both FC/FCoE in the same chassis.

In this report, we looked at the data from E-Mail and external attack vectors. Most of the statistics researched showed that Phishing, Virus, and Spam events are down from the first few months of 2013 compared to the last quarter of 2012. However, there was still activity that caused people concern related to the Valentine’s Day spam. This was a traditional spam message that directed unsuspecting recipients to malicious website asking for personal information. Attachments also contained code that attempted to spread the virus or exploit a vulnerability on the local system. This is a standard attack vector and Modus Operando of spam.

My name is Jay Gilchrist and I am a Practical Thinker at Presidio. I am a Sales Manager for the Virtualization Practice in the North Area and am responsible for enabling our teams to be successful implementing virtualization solutions. In my opinion, virtualization is the most exciting field in IT. These solutions transform the way organizations deliver IT services. The virtualization solutions that Presidio implements transform IT infrastructures that make a big difference to our clients in how they do business. The real secret to successful adoption of virtualization is not necessarily the technology. It is the approach and design that is built around a very specific business function or an opportunity to improve it. Technology is only an enabler, not the solution.

The Situation: DISA had several sites with aged and nminimal functioning PBX's limiting the ability to provide adequateservices to their customers. To keep overall cost low and maximize the dollars invested the customer needed a solution that would use their hard phones and provide as much functionality as possible while keeping the site-by-site installs almost mirrored to their current call queue pattern. All while providing minimal impact to their customers. The system would also need to have the ability to eventually bring all call centers under the same control as DISA moved to a centralized platform for call response.

Whether or not you choose to consider collaboration as a platform or an activity, the fact that can’t be debated is that the two ends of any network are information and people. When the industry accepts that people and information are the two constants that have never changed, the notion of collaboration becoming a platform to connect the two ends of the network becomes more palatable. Let’s look at how the collaboration platform has evolved.
