Business Challenge Since its opening with 50 beds in 1954, the story of Chilton Hospital in northwestern New Jersey has been punctuated by a few significant growth spurts. The addition of a second facility in 1971 was followed by a consolidation and further expansion of its two buildings in 1984. The most recent leap forward - a $24 million renovation and modernization project - got underway in 2012.

“UC on UCS” is used to describe the placement of virtualized Cisco Unified Communications or Collaboration applications onto a Cisco Unified Compute System. Recently, a few clients have asked about the benefits of implementing UC on UCS, especially now that UC virtualization is also supported on other major Blade systems. The answer is simple: control, support and vendor commitment.

The Situation: DISA had several sites with aged and nminimal functioning PBX's limiting the ability to provide adequateservices to their customers. To keep overall cost low and maximize the dollars invested the customer needed a solution that would use their hard phones and provide as much functionality as possible while keeping the site-by-site installs almost mirrored to their current call queue pattern. All while providing minimal impact to their customers. The system would also need to have the ability to eventually bring all call centers under the same control as DISA moved to a centralized platform for call response.

Whether or not you choose to consider collaboration as a platform or an activity, the fact that can’t be debated is that the two ends of any network are information and people. When the industry accepts that people and information are the two constants that have never changed, the notion of collaboration becoming a platform to connect the two ends of the network becomes more palatable. Let’s look at how the collaboration platform has evolved.

Over the last two years I have been atop my soapbox screaming VIDEO…VIDEO…VIDEO! The one question that stumps the sales guys and customers alike is, Why? Why video and why now? It’s been around for 25 years and hasn’t gone viral so what is different about today. Three things are at the epicenter of this movement, Bandwidth, Quality and Relationship Management.

What is the difference between these two phrases, Mobile Collaboration and Collaboration Mobility?  I would suggest that the difference is in the connotation, technicalcapability versus defining a business challenge.

Have you ever stopped to think about how many times per workday someone attempts to reach you? On an average workday, someone tries to reach me every 1.78 seconds (approximately). I “beep” or vibrate are the result of email, phone / video calls, text messages, instant messages, and several others.
