Presidio to Integrate Telepresence
Greenbelt, MD – December 12, 2006 –Infrastructure
services firm Presidio Corp today announced that Cisco has selected
it to provide services around its TelePresence videconferencing
system.
Presidio is already one of the first companies to have any hands-on
experience with TelePresence, having recently installed a few systems
in Cisco offices around the US, Presidio president Rudy Casasola
said.
With its "advanced technology provider" status, the company
is one of only four integrators chosen by Cisco to consult, install
and provide support services for Telepresence, Casasola said.
Telepresence is Cisco's new meeting room videoconference technology,
which utilizes a number of flat screen televisions, microphones
and cameras to create what Casasola calls a "zero- latency"
videoconferencing experience. Cisco is very particular about the
physical setting of its TelePresence rooms, right down to the office
furniture and wall colors.
The actual physical installation of the system, Casasola said, will
only take a few days and involves mostly setting up the rooms and
the video installation. But a good chunk of Presidio's work will
be in the assessment stage of the process, such as working with
clients' network and facilities management staff to make sure the
system will work in the first place.
And with a $299,000 price tag for a six-person room system, including
plasma TVs, mics and cameras (two-person setups go for $79,000),
readying the network environment and physical office space is a
crucial step.
Presidio expects that the kinds of clients who can afford the system
will be large companies and government agenices that most likely
have their own network teams, so managing the networks that TelePresence
sits on probably won't be a big service for Presidio. Instead, Casasola
envisions siginificant requirement analysis and network assessment
in the early stages.
Casasola sees potentially strong adoption of TelePresence in federal
agencies such as the Departments of Homeland Security, Defense and
State, which have already invested in serious videoconferencing
technology.
On the enterprise level, he mentioned the legal industry, financial
markets and manufacturing, or basically any type of industry in
which a company is distributed geographically, as early adopters.
There's promise from the health care sector as well, where the system
can connect providers with each other or with patients for consultations.
Presidio is a privately owned network and communications specialist,
with a focus on designing, deploying and managing a range of infrastructure
services. The company has grown at an average of more than 17% a
year for the past five years, driven by especially strong growth
in the VoIP and security areas, Casasola said. Presidio has about
265 employees.
