Presidio Delivers Authoritative Case for Leveraging Managed Services

GREENBELT, MD – Dec. 10, 2008 – Presidio Managed Networks, a division of Presidio Networked Solutions, Inc., today released a white paper explaining the advantages of “out-tasking” managed services. Unlike conventional outsourcing, which involves transferring the management or day-to-day execution of an entire business function to an external services provider, out-tasking involves transferring a specific segment of the enterprise’s IT functions to a managed-services provider, generally on a renewable annual contract. The white paper details how out-tasking can be used strategically or tactically to help enterprises manage their ongoing operations or to support strategic projects, all while minimizing financial risk and operational disruptions.

Out-tasking provides numerous benefits to enterprises that need to rapidly adopt new technology, respond to competitive threats, or expand their IT operations to meet organizational challenges or market opportunities. Key features and benefits of out-tasking include:

  • Low entry barrier: Because contracts are usually limited in the scope of services to be rendered and are often for short-term agreements, lead times for entering into a contract are typically shorter than for conventional outsourcing agreements.
  • Shorter contracts reduce financial risk: Out-tasking is ideally suited for dynamic organizations that change rapidly, since contracts are typically for shorter terms than with outsourcing; as a result, out-tasking can reduce financial risk.
  • Supplemental expertise: With an out-tasking arrangement, the service provider supplements, but does not replace, the customer’s own staff.
  • Enterprise retains ownership of its IT infrastructure: With out-tasking, the enterprise generally retains ownership of all hardware and software assets, making it easier to change managed service providers, to manage IT costs or to add vital services.
  • Technology adoption freedom: Because out-tasking does not involve the transfer of hardware or software assets, enterprises are free to adopt the industry’s newest technology and infrastructure solutions.

“Today’s organizations need converged, high-speed networks to enhance productivity and reduce their costs, but for many businesses, the investment to retool existing network infrastructures is prohibitive,” said Kevin Mulloy, president of Presidio Managed Networks. “For this reason, more organizations are out-tasking their IT services to managed service providers like Presidio, which can help them develop reliable, secure solutions while lowering costs and increasing productivity. It’s a win-win situation.”
