March 10, 2014 – Greenbelt, MD - For years children in inner-city schools have had to deal with mounting economic pressures and challenges. Given this, Presidio is pleased to announce sponsorship of the annual Urban Entertainment Institute’s Bridging the Gap Concert that took place March 5, 2014.
Cisco and Urban Entertainment Institute (UEI) produced the Bridging the Gap Concert live from eight cities including Austin, Texas. Using Cisco Systems video technology, this production is a one of a kind event, which incorporates participants and viewers from all over the world. The concert, headlined by Jackson Browne, showcased a unified concept for next generation teaching and learning and provides children with new ways to engage and commit to learning.
As schools are forced to scale back or eliminate arts and music programs because of shrinking budgets, educators and administrators are looking for new, innovative ways to keep arts education alive. Cisco partnered with UEI to create the annual Bridging the Gap concert, which is designed to support those schools with music and arts programs that lack funding. This year Presidio is a proud sponsor of the program at Austin High School in Austin, Texas who is participating in the program.
“This is a great way for us to give back into our community,” said Casey Brydson, Sales Manager for Presidio’s Central Texas Region. “The technology solutions we continue to provide in the education market are redefining access to content and changing the way people learn. Video will continue to be a big part of this kind of innovation.”
The Urban Entertainment Institute is a non-profit organization headquartered in Los Angeles, California that provides in-school and after-school programs where young people train in vocal, dance, digital recording, theatrical and musical performance. Students also learn the technical aspects of the entertainment business and run the merchandising and marketing aspects of the organization under the guidance of industry professionals and advisors. Each year, the Urban Entertainment Institute provides students with networking opportunities and exposure to accomplished musicians, artists, actors, business managers and agents. They showcase their talents in local and national performances like the Bridging the Gap event in an effort to raise funds for college scholarships. Urban Entertainment Institute is the first performance arts program to scale its reach through technology, using Cisco’s TelePresence.
Cisco TelePresence creates a live, face-to-face communication experience that empowers students and teachers to collaborate in real-time with individuals from different schools and communities. TelePresence is a high definition video conferencing solution that brings learning to life for students, allowing them to interact with people all over the world as if they were there in person. Presidio has been implementing these kinds of solutions, which transform collaboration for teachers and facilitate new, immediate connections with global educational resources and subject matter experts.
