Practical Perspectives - Meet Roger Haney

My job is about being practical. When Presidio rolled out our new brand I could immediately identify with it as I consider myself a practical thinker. I enable the highly skilled engineering team including pre-sales, implementation, project management, and local managed services teams to meet the customer’s needs.

What I love about what I do is that it allows me to meet both sides of my dual nature – the Yin of the engineering, high tech challenge of puzzling through how to make the technology meet the needs of the customer’s business - and the Yang of the people side of taking care of the needs of the engineers and the customers.

What we do for organizations is far beyond implementing and caring for IT. There is gratification in knowing that as an individual and as a company we are truly impacting people’s lives. We work with hospitals, schools and governments that all depend on data and communication to service the community.

Recently we were asked to resolve a telecommunication issue at a County that was creating a liability for their services. When an issue like this is present it becomes obvious very fast how many people this can potentially impact as the problem was disrupting communications to and from the local jail, the sheriff’s office, and the court systems. The county was also approaching an election that expected over a million citizens to participate in our democratic process. We fixed the problem for them. That is what we do best. We brought both a rapid return to service capability when the issues arose and at the same time a forensic analysis that lead to a solution to the problem for the long term. Practical thinking from some of our smartest people made the difference.

I am excited that I get to tell my story as a Presidio Practical Thinker and proud to be part of my team. Practical thinking for a connected world… I can relate to that.

Practical Perspectives - Jay Gilchrist

My name is Jay Gilchrist and I am a Practical Thinker at Presidio.   I am a Sales Manager for the Virtualization Practice in the North Area and am responsible for enabling our teams to be successful implementing virtualization solutions. In my opinion, virtualization is the most exciting field in IT.  These solutions transform the way organizations deliver IT services. The virtualization solutions that Presidio implements transform IT infrastructures that make a big difference to our clients in how they do business. The real secret to successful adoption of virtualization is not necessarily the technology. It is the approach and design that is built around a very specific business function or an opportunity to improve it. Technology is only an enabler, not the solution.

Recently I worked with an organization to help them spin off from their parent company and create a new Data Center infrastructure.  VMware and Microsoft  partnered with Presidio to make this transition possible.  The collective solutions enabled our client to better monitor and manage their applications while leveraging shared resources from compute to storage; A practical solution to a complex problem of increasing performance with virtual and dynamic resources.

I love what I do and think it is setting a great example for my children. I would like them to learn that if they stay in school and work hard that they can find a career where they like what they do and are making a difference.

As technology continues to advance and even accelerate, many aspects of my children’s lives will be improved.  Advances in technology will help healthcare providers in disease prevention and more effective delivery of treatment.  Technology advances will also enable more effective delivery of education to their children.
