Recently a local school system was looking for a way to introduce new technology into their massive transportation fleet in order to improve the service and security for students and drivers.  The school system covered a large geographic area, making the commute for many students quite lengthy. They desired to better utilize their video security solution, extend connectivity to students’ devices allowing for homework using back office systems to be done during the long commute, validate the vehicles were on time and securely on the prescribed route, and collect vehicle telematics information to ensure efficient vehicle operations.  While manufacturers like Cisco provide individual products, no manufacturer provides a unified architecture to meet the requirements of the physical vehicle environments or the integrated applications architecture the client desired.

Integrated Services & Solutions for Schools

Presidio’s Systems Engineering team was able to design and manufacture our EnviroXtreme Router (EXR) 819, an IP-67 rated enclosure integrating a Cisco 819H Series integrated services router, a compute solution to house applications and video data, and an automotive grade power supply. Along with MOTOTrax software from AgelTrax, and the solid state drivers in Presidio’s EXR819, the existing video architecture was leveraged and extended with greater repository capability as well as remote viewing for emergency situations. Presidio integrated Davra Network’s RuBAN as a unified platform with flexible API’s to unify collection, management, analysis, and response of data from the on-board applications including the network infrastructure and how it impacts the applications. The Aphelia Collaboration System was also integrated with the school system’s existing Cisco Unified Communications and IPICS radio integrated infrastructure delivering a unified dispatch architecture with text, voice, and video communications delivered with features specific to dispatch and driver communications.

By using our mechanical and electronics engineering capability to manufacture unique components, and combing that with our integration services we provided a single solution that only Presidio could deliver. A solution that met the needs of our client’s unique requirements and also provided them with a platform primed for future growth to address unforeseen future needs. This is the Internet of Things.
